day 168: self-portrait

This picture was actually an attempt at making a hand-held self-portrait with my 50mm lens on my 450D. Since my camera is a crop body I am therefore also somewhat … cropped (oh surprise). However, what I like about this picture is the depth of field which lets one of my eyes be in focus while the other is already out of focus.

  1. This is excellent, as you say the focus/out of focus play adds a lot to this image. Personally I would crop a little bit the left side just leave out the white area on the left top corner which I find a little distracting, but this is just my opinion which could be wrong…

  2. I like it, the eye is definitely the focal point really standing out from the rest of the photo. I agree with Robert re. cropping out the top right.

  4. Love the focus too.. and agree with Robert. Cropping out the top left light area ( which I’m sure is what David means too ) would improve the shot

  6. Wonderful, Ms. F…
self-portraits are never easy (even with the help of a tripod), but you’ve made it look easy! Love the shallow d.o.f., too… f/1.8 sounds like a dream!
