day 331: tv tower – retro glory

The TV tower here in Berlin is definitely a lovely sight. It not only looks super futuristic, but it’s also impressively high. And since it’s so high you can find many spots in the city where you can take a picture of it. Yesterday I was mainly enjoying a quiet day at home editing pictures from the day before and this is one of them. Since the low sun was giving the tower a bit too much yellow I decided to tone it down a little while still bringing out the sky. Best way to do that without spending ages on the colours was a black and white conversion. Somehow I ended up playing with the preset though and decided to tone down the intensity. This definitely gave the picture a nice lo-fi glow.

  1. I love it! You’re probably too young to remember ‘The Jetsons’ ………

    • Thanks Meanderer 🙂 Actually I do remember the Jetsons. Not sure whether they still show them, but in the 90s they repeated them over and over on German TV.

    • Definitely. When I see the tower I’m always reminded that I’m in Berlin and how cool that really is 🙂

  5. SO cool! And I love your processing here, too, of course…
    those muted colors really do pump-up that retro / conceptually-futuristic / vintage-ishness…
or… well… I think I you know what I mean. Well, really I know that you do, because you’ve already done it (and described it much more effectively) above!

    • Thank you again! I really love those soviet futuristic structures as well, although nowadays we know that most of them have been left to rot. If I knew Russian I would probably go and visit quite a number of them. Maybe one day I learn it. (It’s really stupid that I can’t speak the language although my mum is Russian)

    • Oh, by the way, if you’re interested in crazy structures like this, then I can only recommend this book: CCCP: Cosmic Communist Constructions Photographed

  6. Very cool shot! The tower is very futuristic looking. Are you sure it’s not from some other planet far far away??
