day 266: coffee bubbles

Look, a macro picture of coffee! Did I mention my coffee addiction? Yes, I did. Several times.

The other day I was finally making some order in my pictures again and suddenly I realised that I have been basically only using my prime lens for several months. This is strange, since originally I wanted to experiment a lot with different perspectives and ways of looking at the different details of certain things that people don’t necessarily notice. I mean, I love my 50mm f/1.4, since it’s fast and produces very nice bokeh, but with my crop body it is in a way a very limited lens. Until today when I finally changed my lens, this was probably the only picture this year that was taken with my 18-55mm lens. I also used a macro converter, which in some way makes it hard to focus, but it can already produce some very nice results, although it’s just a cheap gadget. For me a macro lens would probably be useless and just collect dust in some corner, since I hardly ever shoot flowers. Maybe one day I’ll try some black and white flower shots, but in all the colourful detail of them I just find them so boring!

Such a difference it was today shooting with 18mm and f/3.5 in the dark. This lens needs so much more light! I’ll be shooting with my 18-55mm lens for a week now and you can expect to see some more wide-angle shots when I finally catch up with posting these pictures. Still some time to go, since this picture was taken at the beginning of the month that is now ending.

  2. Love that softly fading detail…
and the sweeping curve created by the rim of the cup…
